An Architectural Artistic and Historical Treasure Chest

Visit fortresses and castles, churches with priceless art work and frescoes, contry houses typical of the southern Marche region, scattered throughout o countryside where people still live and work as they once did. Originally, the area was settled by the Picene people, descendants of the Sabines, who came, legend has it, guided by a woodpecker who showed them the way. And you can see some of the oldest of these settlements, perched on hilltops as a defense against enemy assault, with their typically narrow lanes, built with tuff and travertine stone from the area or bricks baked in local kilns. You'll discover enchanting views waiting around each curve, where the deep green of the land meets the azure sky and the turquoise hues of the mountains; where farmlands were and still are tailored to meet the needs of the men who till them the same farmland that to this day bring food to our tables.

You can visit the Farfensi settlements where the influence of the monks of the Order significantly changed the area during the age of the Papal States. On the region's border where the conflict between Bourbons and Papal State were frequent, bitter conflict between brigands and regular troops had the local in constant flight from one dominion to another.
