THE ASTROLOGER The astrologer came down from the mountain and was always an old, whiskered, nervous woman with white hair poking out of the handkerchief, tied pirate style, which covered her hair. She came down to do her rounds and remove envy.She made people pay for her services and the rite called for a bowl and the oil bottle. Then, the mysterious ritual began. She made the sign of the cross on the person whom she was to free of the evil eye, on their hair, forehead, shoulders, all over the body. And prayers rose to her lips, seen in the silent working of her mouth. Prayers and formulas (wordings) that only the astrologer knew and of which she made great secret, which were only passed on at death. The woman dropped the oil into the water in the plate and if the drop remained rounded it was the sign of envy, the eyes of envious people. But then, if the drop began to lose its shape, it was a sign that envy was moving away.Or else, grains of wheat were thrown one by one into the water; the astrologer then interpreted the position of the grain and showed you the bubbles of air next to the grain: the envious eye. The people believed and felt better once they had had the astrologer free them from envy. Bibliography:
