KNIFE MAKER – FARRIER

This artisan trade started and was passed down in only one family, the Martorellis.

Just fifty years ago, the knife maker’s forge still existed. The blades were tempered to the correct point following the family secret.

The knife maker worked with sharp-edged hunting, table and kitchen knives.  He worked both for the people of the town and for those who requested his services outside the town. The knives of Acquasanta, fitted with horn handles and everlasting blade, were famous and sold a lot.

The knife maker was also a farrier. Not just knife blades were created on his anvil but also horse shoes and smaller shoes for donkeys.
