FEAST OF SPIT-ROAST VEAL On the third weekend of August the Spit-roast veal Feast is held. The event arises from the old traditions that required the peasants of the village, during the summer period, to join together in a kind of cooperative for the harvest in the fields. This obligation lasted for the whole day (from dawn to dusk) and they moved from one field to another lending their work in an archaic form of mutual help. hen the community work was finished they all met up around a big fire on which a whole calf was cooked and used to feed the many diners. The feast is preceded by themed gastronomic evenings (beans with bacon rind, penne all’arrabbiata, castrated lamb cooked on the embers and so on). |
