ABETITO

Abetito preserves a homogenous group of XVIII century houses that are now almost completely abandoned. Lacking any decoration, they display spectacular rough and linear definitive walls that give full prominence to the building material used. In one of the houses, a lintel dated 1709 surmounts the opening of a garage and carries the monogram JHS at the centre.Isolated from the village and not far from the parish church, a XVI century house can be seen, with a facing of considerable compacted ness and evenness. It has trilithic windows and a portal bearing a slight JHS monogram, the lintel of which is supported on brackets. The second floor is projected by a stringcourse with cyma moulding.

Church of San Pietro

The church of S. Pietro presents a certain antiquity thanks to its external configuration.  The left side suggests a planimetry of medieval origin in which the only nave leads into a projecting transept, with the apse at the end of the presbytery.  The base of the left side of the nave presents a series of ashlars methodically set out and carefully levelled.   Some cruciform marks of a typically medieval tradition punctuate the surfaces of some roughly worked stones.  Inside, the abacus of a cornice carries the date 1570, which was when the restoration that gave the building its current aspect was carried out.  A solid monolithic baptismal tank with octagonal base dates back to 1570 too.  A baptismal font on a pedestal worked with palmettes that can be dated to the XVII century is also worth noting, simple in style but not without its own elegance.  The church of Abetito preserves an astylar cross of the Sulmona school.
